HW Cataclysm

ON Windows XP SP3:

Installed game
Tried running, crashes.
Patched using UK 1.01.
Game runs, however menu flickers a bit, changes state with mouse movements.
Grahic mode set as photo; D3D Primary Display - 1280x1024 attempts on GL fails texture memory maxed full detail effects high

Registry Hack for Resolution and better Windows7 compatibility:

As always, editing your registry is dangerous and you do so at your own risk!

- Install Homeworld
- I have the "Game of the Year" Edition. I have not installed any additional patches.

- Go into regedit
- Find key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESierra On-LineHomeworld" *
- Change "screenHeight" key to your screen height (800 in my case)
- Change "screenWidth" key to your screen height (1280 in my case)
- Make sure the "base" is in decimal

* Key for Windows 7 (64bit): "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeSierra On-LineHomeworld"

PS. I will update out Troubleshooting information with new findings as they appear.

  • Tried the Homeworld 1:Raiders Retreat demo in Vista SP2 and had to disable check:
    Disable visual themes
    Disable desktop composition
Disable display scaling on high DPI settings

Setting compatibility mode to NT sp4 won't allow me to use OpenGL as the render instead of D3D...

When the demo load the game has some bad lag in the beginning but the rest of the time it is okay with no lag at all.

[edit] I got the demo to run without most those settings checked.Only problem is the screen resolution is changed to 1024 x 768 instead of 1366 x 768 after I reboot the laptop

So recently we passed 6.000.000 visits to this site. That's 6 MILLION unique visits. All these good people have so far downloaded the hosted files over 300.000 times. Considering it is over a time span that is fast approaching 20 years, it may not be huge numbers, but keeping this running since January 2005 has not always been without glitches. We were so many more then, and a lot are still active in other channels. Please help me out a bit, if you like what you see and would help me keep this up and running for another 20 years, please consider hitting that button there below and send what you are able to my way. This is the only AD you will ever see on this site.
