History

These color variations were originally created for a mod which has yet to be released, but they have such potential for widespread application (translation: a lot of people like different colors of ion beams) that it seemed best to release them anyways. None of the textures are really original, a simple algorithm (well, once you figure out the algorithm it seems simple) was applied several million times (once for each texture) to bend the colors of the original ion beam textures. (One more paranthesis, just for fun!)

Instructions

Unzip rainbow.zip into your Homeworld directory. Unzip this into your Homeworld directory. Open homeworld\etg\r1.script or homeworld\etg\r2.script Find a weapon slot you like and replace its chunk o' text with a color you like. Any weapon slot can be a beam weapon, even things like SmallEnergyCannon, as long as the weapons are set up like beams in your SHP files. Here's an example that sets Kushan LargeIonCannons to Color-cycling mode. Use search-replace (carefully!) to change the slot, race, and/or color.

Here's a list of all 14 sets of EBGs (fire*, hit*, and bullet*) and the approximate RGB value of the beams they create. If you're really cool, you can go down to the bottom of whatever script file you just modified, to the [color of bullets] section and change those lines to reflect the newly-recolored ion beams you just installed. If there isn't a setBulletColor line for the weapon slot you changed, you can make one, just be sure to spell everything correctly.
