Homeworld Effects Manual: setDeltaRDist()
setDeltaRDist(float distance, float angle)
Specifies how much uncertainty there is in an object's angle and radial distance from the origin.
Default values: distance = 0, angle = 2pi
Legal values: distance: all real numbers, angle: all real numbers
Homeworld effects use cylindrical co-ordinates. Think of a clock face. The hands point in the R direction, i.e. radially outwards. The clock hands point to different numbers depending on their angle. setDeltaRDist() says how much the angle and distance from center are allowed to vary from the values set in setDeltaR(). Objects are allowed to move in or out by distance meters, and their angle vary by up to angle radians. See the pictures below if you are a visual learner.
Note that, by default, angle is 2pi, so setting an angle with setDeltaR() is meaningless without a setDeltaRDist() to restrict the angle. To complicate matters further, setting angle to zero is the same as setting it to 2pi, the angle is completely unrestricted. The workaround is to make angle very small, perhaps 0.0001. Also, since people can read degrees more easily than radians, it is customary to type in angles like this:
[(90) * 2.0 * 3.14159265359789 / 360.0]
instead of this:
