Homeworld Effects Manual: setAlphaMode()

setAlphaMode(float value)

Useful values: 0, 1

Default value: 1

Enables additive alpha mode.

If value is 1, the transparency of the object is determined by the ALPHA layer of its texture, then by the luminence of the TEX layer. Dark portions of the texture appear more transparent, while brighter section appear more solid. If several semi-transparent objects overlap, they are blended additively, i.e., the overlapping portions appear brighter.

If value is anything but 1, the transparency ot the object is determined solely by the ALPHA layer of its texture. Overlapping objects do not get brighter, however, you must be careful to use well-made textures. glow32.LiF, one of the most useful textures that comes with Homeworld, has an ALPHA layer which fades to black slower then its TEX layer. With setAlphaMode(0), a hideous black ring appears around the glow. The explosion textures do not have this problem.

setAlphaMode() is applied after setAddColor()
