History

The Great Wars team wanted to get as close as possible to the weapons loadout of all the ships in their mod, but there was a problem. Starfuries are sometimes seen to carry missiles on special racks under their top wings, but fighters in Homeworld are not allowed to use missiles. The solution was simple, but creative. Make a normal bullet look just like a missile. It wouldn't track its target, but that was acceptable. Thursday's Child provided the mesh for the missile, and a pulse weapon texture from Cnl Pepper's weapon pack simulated the missile exhaust. After this effect's initial release it was discovered (by someone who actually watched a Starfury fire a missile!) that the exhaust should be yellow, not blue. That has been fixed.

Instructions

Unzip dumbfiregw.zip into Homeworld directory. Replace the MediumEnergyCannon section in r1.script with:

[StarFury Missiles]
setBulletEffect R1,GS_MediumEnergyCannon,BulletGWDumbfireMissile.ebg
setBulletEffect R1,GS_MediumEnergyCannon,BulletGWDumbfireMissile.ebg
setBulletEffect R1,GS_MediumEnergyCannon,BulletGWDumbfireMissile.ebg
setBulletEffect R1,GS_MediumEnergyCannon,BulletGWDumbfireMissile.ebg
setBulletEffect R1,GS_MediumEnergyCannon,BulletGWDumbfireMissile.ebg
setHitEvent R1,GS_MediumEnergyCannon,HitMines.ebg
setHitEvent R1,GS_MediumEnergyCannon,HitMines.ebg
setHitEvent R1,GS_MediumEnergyCannon,HitMines.ebg
setHitEvent R1,GS_MediumEnergyCannon,HitMines.ebg

There is no fireEvent; the missiles just slide off the rails.
