Kearsarge Class

The Kearsarge class filled a role that the federation was lacking for many years - a light cruiser. Designated as an NCL (new light cruiser) at the start of the war, the ships they replaced were so old (well over 100 at the time) that they were all scrapped instead of refitted. The NCL's were the counterparts of the Constitutions, along with the Saladin class destroyers. The Kearsarge class has the same weapons layout as a constitution, but does not have the staying power, and is used as a fire support platform
