Sovereign Class

The Sovereign Class was viewed as a battlecruiser by Starfleet Command. Engineers had been perpetually redesigning this class since 2338, but it wasn't until after the Borg invasion till Starfleet approved the construction of a prototype. Following trials it was determined that work would be required to upgrade the ships weapons systems, so full scale production of this class was put off until 2368.

Ablative amour and quantum torpedos make this ship a formidable enemy, capable of going head-to-head with a Dominion battlecruiser. During the second Borg attack, the Enterprise demonstrated the Sovereign's extreme maneuverability and deadly weapons systems.

During the Dominion war only a handful of these ships were in service, most made up part of the fleet protecting Earth and other key Federation installations, however several did see action on the front line.
