Prospector

The FMC, or Federation Mining Commission, needed a sturdy and functional ship to aid in managing the Federation's growing asteroid mining operation and the Prospector has been delivering ever since. The FMC commissioned the first Prospector in 2243. Since that first Prospector was christened, the class has proved itself extremely valuable in storing resources mined in deep space, and harboring the crews of the accompanying Packrat mining ships.

Over its term of service, the Prospector has undergone general refits to the engines and computer systems. Other than those modifications, however, the class remains structurally identical to when it first entered service, and many of the Prospectors in use are over one hundred years old.

The Prospector has no armaments, one of its downfalls, and escort is required whenever a Prospector and its mining group venture into a disputed area.
