A distinct improvement over the original (already great) Homeworld; Barking Dog Studios has avoided the pitfalls of most sequels and delivered a game that is better, more enjoyable, and more challenging than its predecessor.

The original Homeworld broke new ground for RTS fans, but Barking Dog Studios has taken it to the next level and produced an even better space combat game with Homeworld: Cataclysm. It’s the perfect sequel to an already great game, eliminating all the drawbacks from the original (such as the need to refuel strike craft), keeping what made Homeworld easy to use (mouse and a few keys), beefing up the interface with clickable text, and showcasing an entire fleet of new ships and technologies. The overall pace of the game is not as fast as say, Dark Reign, but you can speed things up to 8x faster using time compression. With seventeen missions, each with multiple objectives, you get much more for your money than you would in a regular expansion pack. Improved graphics, better story, and better gameplay make Cataclysm a better overall game.
