Don't Call it a Break Up

Sierra has clarified news regarding Microsoft's publishing of Relic's upcoming title.

March 2, 2000

Our story concerning Gamestock yesterday reported that Relic will be publishing an upcoming mystery title with Microsoft instead of Sierra, with which it recently published the space strategy game Homeworld.

In response to questions about the future of the Sierra/Relic relationship, a spokesman for Sierra told us that the company still has a very strong connection to Relic, and that the publishing deal has not affected the association between the companies. According to Sierra, Relic pitched the game to the company, but the company felt that it didn't fit within its current lineup, and encouraged them to shop the project around to other developers. Microsoft seems to have picked up the title, but this in now way implies that Relic will now be working exclusively with Microsoft on future games. In our conversations with the company, it was clear that Sierra is confidant that you will see future titles from Relic published by the company.
