"beatthestreethome.com ... what the heck does it mean?" That's the question we were asking ourselves today when we returned to the beautiful IGN Studios from our usual four hour lunch and found beatthestreethome.com shirts straddling the backs of our chairs. We queried Mr. Robot, the only member of our staff left at the offices, about the cryptic garments (we usually don't invite that pompous mechanical construct to our power lunches), but he had nothing to report. We believe he purposely keeps secrets from us, but our numerous caning episodes have offered no insight into this hypothesis.
As much as we tried to ignore the curious URL, we couldn't hold out forever. Vincent was the first to give in, some 17.3 seconds after sitting down at his desk. All we saw was a pulsating beatthestreethome.com logo and a countdown ticker. Since we're not very good with numbers, we called some of the accounting people over to surmise the situation. They told us that apparently the countdown ticker suggests that the beatthestreethome.com site would be going live sometime around 10am Pacific time, and promptly charged us all 33% tax for figuring out the problem.
One thing was curious about the whole episode, though. The room did have a faint odor of seaweed, pomegranates, and Lysol ... an obvious clue that the perpetrator was most likely none other than Alex Garden, CEO and President of Relic Entertainment, the developers behind Homeworld. We can't be sure, but we know Alex's tell-tale scents and we're pretty sure the page has something to do with the upcoming space-based RTS. I guess we'll know more on Thursday...
