"Here they come! Prepare the defenses!"
I can hear them. They're coming by air. Multilisks and Guardians. There is no more running, this shall be the last stand. Now or never.
Photon Cannons rise out from their dormancy and let loose the hell inside them on the attackers. My escorts rush to the front in their dragoons to protect me. Two High Templar open up the deepest parts of their mind and rip apart only a few of the Zerg's minions. Scouts are recalled by Arbiters to contain the threat, only to by shot down by the suicidal Scourges.
I find myself being protected by the whole camp. Gateways and Stargates churn out unit after unit while I sit here watching them give there lives for me, one protoss. Two fully loaded Carriers fly over me and release their interceptors. They destroyed half the group, and I think we have a chance.
Overlords, behind me. Why didn't I see them? Six of them, close to the ground. Hydralisks, Zerglings, Ultralisks... every Zerg strand are coming out of the sacs hidden inside the flying behemoths. I find myself alone while my comrades defend themselves the now massive Zerg air assault. I quickly turn around and unload my cannon as the last Zerg unit falls on the ground. I fire at the closest zergling as they run towards me. The first few explode in one shot, but as I look at carapaces of them, I can see the skin moving and twisting. Another Zerg evolution. I fire again, noticing that the zergling now takes another barrage of plasma to go down.
I can't hold them off. The two Ultralisks have now collected themselves and are now on the move. I keep firing, but only in vain. One of them thunders up to me and drives it scythe into my shield. A zealot jumps on top of me and again on the Zerg tank, forcing his psi blade into his skull. I can here him. "Go now, I'll take care of him!" The other Ultralisk came up and, with one swing, sliced him in half, only to explode in a blue flame due to the power suit.
I can hear her laughing, like in the blackest part of my mind. "This is a betrayal, most foul Kerrigan! We were fools to have gone along this charade!"
Her laughter dwindles down in order to talk. "You're right, Fenix. I used you to get the job done, and you played along just like I knew you would. You Protoss are all so headstrong and predictable, you are your own worst enemies."
We are our own worst enemies? She is Zerg. Her swarm has fought itself over smaller matters that this. "That's ironic. I can remember Tassadar teaching you a very similar lesson on Char."
"I took that lesson to heart, Praetor." She must have knew what she was doing since the first Zerg rebellion with Zzaz's death. "Now are you ready to die a second time?"
The Ultralisk's black eyes stared at my refitted dragoon, Kerrigan's eyes. "The Khala awaits me, Kerrigan. And although I am prepared to face my destiny, you'll not find me easy prey!"
Two Lurkers formed beside the army in front of me, and burrowed to show their attack power. "Than that shall be your epitaph," she, no, it calmly spoke. Spines ruptured through the ground and penetrated my shield, tearing away at the metal underneath me. My comrades behind me are not faring so well, but are holding their own. It's just me facing this army.
Two zergling come from my right. My shields are so weak that they burst right though them are start to gnaw at my mechanical leg. I fall as it gives way to the punishment it has received. My shields are totally gone. I reposition my cannon to still fire on the infected ones. The are all on me. The Ultralisks destroy my other legs while the Lurkers ruptured into my consoles.
As my battered body will soon join the Khala in its rightful place, I think to myself my last thought.
I fear no enemy for the Khala is my strength...
I fear not death for our strength is eternal!
"Fenix! No!"
"What are you worried about, Jim? He died the way all Protoss hope to: In combat!"
"He died because you betrayed him. How many noble souls do you need to consume before you're satisfied? How many more people need to die before you realize what you've become?"
"You don't even know what you're talking about, Jim!"
"Don't I? I'll see you dead for this, Kerrigan. For Fenix and all the others who got between you and your quest for power!"
"Tough talk, Jimmy. But I don't think you have what it takes to be a killer."
"It may not be tomorrow, darlin'. It might not even happen with an army at my back. But rest assured: I'm the man who's going to kill you someday. I'll be seein' you."
