Sea of Lost Souls

Finally free of the nebula we encounter a mysterious ship with strange attributes.

Mission Objectives

1. Investigate the anomaly
Send a probe or a scout to point A to investigate the anomalous readings sensors are reporting, point A is 48 KM away at the 247 degree point of the compass.
2. Destroy Alien vessel
Destroy the alien vessel as it posses a threat to any frigate class ship or larger.
3. Salvage the Unknown Vessel
Salvage whatever information from the now disabled vessel, the science division is interested in the details behind the field the ship produced.

New Research

  1. Gravity Generator
  2. Super Heavy Chassis*

New Ships

  1. Grav Well Generator
  2. Carrier*

What I do

As per most missions so far I launch all my corvettes, however this mission is slightly out of the ordinary so I do not set them up in an aggressive wall. I set them to evasive before I use them but I also launch all the other fighters I have. I'll also start building defenders in whatever amount I have available for strike craft, the game limits you to 80 slots for strike craft so I should have about 40 slots free at this point for defenders. I will also set my collectors to collecting and the controller guarding one of the collectors. The only point of attack in this mission is the anomaly so they are safe unescorted.

Sending a probe or a scout to the point of contact I find a strange ship with several now identified ships in it's close proximity. Normally you might think you need a frigate fleet to take out the one missile destroyer and 4-7 frigates, you would be wrong and complicate your mission SOOO much if you try that route. The alien ship captures and controls frigates sized ships and up, don't add to it's arsenal.

Once I have made contact I'll wait for the defenders to finish building then I'll send all my strike craft (this actually includes corvettes) over to attack the alien ship, some people like to salvage the ships around it first, you can do so without losses but you end up not receiving missile tech when doing the salvage thing so I prefer to take out the alien ship to gain control of the ships in it's possession.

You will get a response from the fleet science division noting a tiny fluctuation in the alien ships control field with each shot it receives, so I keep pounding it with the 80 fighters and 30 or so corvettes until the field fails, which really doesn't take that long to accomplish.

Once the ships are mine I retire all but the Missile Destroyer, you only get 6 destroyer slots and I have used 4 for standard destroyers, if you start 2 more missile destroyers building as soon as you are informed you can now produce them you can have 7 destroyers, 4 standard and 3 missile. Missile destroyers are good in numbers 3 or more especially if you have a grav well to trap strike craft in.

*Once I have salvage the information from the alien ship the Bentusi show up at point B to ask for the information I gathered and offer Super Heavy Chassis as a trade item, I didn't take the trade but the Bentusi get the information anyway. Once again I want to see when I will get the research on my own. Missile tech is just too useful for me to wait on it so that is why I go the route that gets me that tech as soon as possible.
