The Gardens of Kadesh

A great foreboding and mysterious nebula stands in our path. The Bentusi warned us than none return from it's confines, use care and caution as we await the hyperspace modules recharging.

Mission Objectives

Primary

1. Harvest Resources
While we wait for the hyperspace module to recharge we should gather the resources in the nebula, they are rich and well distributed.
2. Defend Fleet
The inhabitants of the nebula are hostile in nature and will not allow us to leave the nebula. Defend the fleet from the attack waves sent at us. Point A in the picture is the initial point of contact with the Kadeshi, once engaged they move to point B when damaged severely.

Secondary

1. Protect Resourcers
The Kadeshi as they call themselves are attacking our collectors, protect and repair them from the attacking enemy ships.

New Research

  1. Super Capital Ship Drive
  2. Fast Tracking Turrets

New Ships

  1. Standard Destroyer
  2. Multi-gun Corvette

What I do

Entering the mission I will immediately launch my 20-25 heavy corvettes. I don't want to lose any strike craft to the Kadeshi swarms so I keep them docked. I'll form up the vettes into an aggressive wall and set my 8 SFs to repair them on evasive. I don't need the resources at this point but in order to trigger the ambassador contact with the Kadeshi I have to start collecting resource, so I do that too.

Once I trigger the event I'll tell my resourcers to dock with the mother ship to get them out of harms way. This also brings the Kadeshi ships close to my wall of heavy vettes. I'll start taking out the ships with them and release my 10 or so salvettes. Kadeshi fighters use fuel so fast they have to dock very often to keep in a fight, this is their main weakness. For every 8 fighters there is a single fuel pod that follows them around for re-supply. I'll use the salvettes on those fuel pods.

Each fuel pod will net me 300 resources when it is retired, you can get 16 plus fuel pods on this mission giving you 4800 plus RUs extra over what is found on the map. You might even get a few swarmers in the process (I ended up with one by accident) since capturing the fuel pod before the swarmers dock effectively removes them from battle. Once a fuel pod is taken by salvettes the swarmers assigned to it will run out of fuel and, if you do not try to salvage them, explode.

If I encounter a particularly heavy concentration of swarmers, as when they return to their assigned fuel pods, I'll use the heavy vettes burst attack on them. While the burst attack does not kill them out right, it does damage them severely. This makes it easy for me to pick them off as they return to the fuel pods, once they get scattered by my burst attack. I try not to attack any fuel pods at all as I want to retire them for the resources.

After wiping out the first two waves of swarmers coming from point A I will set my ICFs to an aggressive sphere and tell them to attack the Kadeshi mothership (needle ship as it is called). If I use any other formation or tactic the needle ship will have a chance to ram my ships and destroy them, I don't want that to happen. Once the needle ship is smoking it will hyper out to point B on the map and release more swarmers.

For these waves I once again use the heavy vettes on them, I do take the time to dock my vettes for fuel though as I don't want them running dry. Once the 2-3 waves I get this time are dead, I'll move in my ICFs again to attack the needle ship. Once again it will hyper out when it starts smoking, leaving me alone to clean up the map. As I wait for the resources to complete collection of the map resources, I start the building of 4 standard destroyers. By the time I'm ready to move to the next mission I have 4 brand new destroyers.

As I hyper out the needle ship returns long enough for my hyper to fail but not in close enough proximity to me to be seen. This little bit of trickery is used to set up the next mission, then I am able to hyperspace out.
