Info and Strategies

Most general purpose AoE2 fan sites include news, related forums, game info, downloads, and posted strategies. Info and strategy sections in these sites  tend to be a little patchy, depending on how much time or enthusiasm can be spared in creating them. Commercial game sites' strategy guides and bibles, by contrast, usually give you a comprehensive starting point and a general overview of the game as conceived by its designers. But fans will post all kinds of weird and unforeseen strategies as new strategies and counters are constantly brought up. Strategies can come and go like fashions!

Age of Empires is a very popular game, with many commercial game sites and fan web guides to show for it. The game itself offers help and vital statistics at all levels throughout, so many of the pages are less inclined to recycle the same old stats and concentrate on the real strategies and approaches to playing. Here's a representative sample of the more useful or more popular ones.

Age of Kings Digital	Start here for an excellent info site specializing exclusively in Age of Kings' expansion, The Conquerors. You get lists of expansion changes, details on the new civilizations, new map types, new game types and other essential details. Hmm, after reading this I think I just might try and find the time to grab that expansion after all!
	A general purpose AoE2 fan site, Age of King's University pages post strategies and tactics submitted by fans.
AOK Battlefield Strategy Section	This was a comprehensive strategy guide specifically for multiplayer, by and for the fans: the hard-core ones. Currently its under construction - and has been for a while, and asks for a security certificate.
	Ager's HQ Strategy section is divided up into Strategies and Tips, nearly all submitted by the game fans at large. Not that comprehensive, but useful to peruse nonetheless.
GameProWorld	Although highly commercial, GameProWorld's AoE2 Strategy Guide is a sound introduction to the newcomer. It also has an excellent guide on the random map types found in AoE2 multiplayer games.
	Gamespot's AoE2 Game Guide gives you the usual glossy guide and the usual clamour to actually buy the thing. As ever, a good read.
Mr Fixit Online (MFO) aok.rtscentral.com	Once this was just a forum, but now its evolved into a rich information hub catering for serious gaming types requiring news, up to date strategies and info, and lots more. It originally started with Age of Kings but has since branched out to other games including Empire Earth, Diablo II, Counter-Strike and Majesty. aok.rtscentral.com forms the Age of Kings section, featuring excellent strategy postings, offering everything for abject beginners, intermediate players and experts. Well worth a squizz.
Planet Age of Empires Strategy	Excellent source of general information, as well as keeping close tabs on the current fads and fashions in AoE2 strategy, with a lot of communal involvement. Go here once you've read up on the basics! Strategy Planet also has brief notes on many of the significant buildings, units (yet to be posted) and technologies in the game as well.
