All I can say is wow. I'd never seen a map this large before, and I doubt we'll see many like it. This map does what many others have unsuccessfully tried to do before - it gives Homewold truly huge proportions.
The map is based around a system of rings not unlike Saturn's. The map is somewhere along the lines of 2000 kilometers from one side to the other, and it looks very nice. Although the starting points are above or below the rings, the majority of the resources are concentrated in them, so the action is mostly two dimensional.
I really only have two complaints about gameplay. First of all, this map lends itself to huge battles, but it doesn't provide the resources to build a large fleet, so what you wind up with is nearly 1000 kilometers of empty space, with a few ships wandering around trying to find each other. To solve this I turned on resource injections, and things really heated up.
The other problem this map has is that it doesn't fit in the Sensors Manager! I found it hard to select my probes, because they often went clear off the screen!
Overall: If you've always wanted to play a game where you fight for a whole planet at once, and you enjoy long battles with big fleet maneuvers, then this is the map for you. Just make sure you turn on resource injections...
