Well, this is certainly an interesting concept, but it has a few major problems. Basically, there are a bunch of resource pockets scattered over a massive galaxy-sized map, each one inhabited by a few alien ships. The players apparently are supposed to explore the map and capture the alien vessels, or something. The map is so large that hyperspacing is the only viable way to get around. It took my probe like 10 minutes to get from one pocket to another!

Not to worry, though; there's so many resources in your starting location that you'll be set for life. I found that I was able to hyperspace my entire fleet anywhere I wanted, there were so many resources in the area I started at. I only have a few problems with this map, but they are fairly big ones. First of all, as I said, there are way too many friggin' resources! Not only that, but the build limits are turned way, way down, to the point that the game is silly. Come on, only 10 corvettes? What's up with that? My final complaint is that this map is unnecesarily large. It was virtually empty, but it was so massive that it gave my computer (p3 550mhz, 128 mb ram, voodoo 3 accelerator) fits in the sensors manager. The same kind of effect could have been achieved, at half the size. So overall, this was a very interesting attempt. I love the idea of actually going out and exploring the various resource pockets/ alien ships, where the only real way to get around is to hyperspace. It makes exploration a big element of the game. Tone down the number of resources, and put the fleet limits back to normal, and you have a good & original map.
