I don't know if it was just luck or what but everytime I start a game on this map I find a crate just a little bit aways from my mothership/carrier. Usually that crate has a few bombers or maybe a corvette or two, and that usually gives me the advantage needed in the early game to win. Cosmic Void is described as "quite unique" by the author of the map, Jacelor. In some ways, it is, but in other is simply a clone.
The resources are arranged in two big long tubes that look like they have been twisted around eachother, and that is where I'm asuming the "quite unique" comes in. The two players playing start at opposite ends of the lengthy tube and, like so many other maps, work their way in to the center.
I mentioned how it was simply a clone (in certain ways) above right? Besides the unique resources, there isn't a huge difference between this map and other typical "start at edges and work your way in" type of map. It puts the emphasis on strike craft in the ealry game, and later the frigates. However, it still provides a fun one-on-one game against a human, though against the AI I find it a bit easy. Something I also find I need to mention is the lack of music. It states that in the description, but I'm still not sure why Jacelor decided to go the no-music route.
Overall, while the concept isn't anything new, its still a fun map for pounding one of your friends. If you want a decent one-on-one and can't choose a map, go with this one just because of the cool resources.
